I would have to say my absolute favorite accessory to enhance my outfit of the day, are earrings. I love earrings so much, I got another piercing in my ear last October, making that a total of 3 in each ear. Now I have more leverage to rock as many earrings as I want to! Small businesses have always had a special place in my heart, and they need our help during this pandemic more than ever. Even though we are not leaving the house right now, I still wanted to share some small business jewelry brands I have been patronizing lately to dress up in the house LOL!
These bamboo earrings I wear all the time were a custom item I ordered to wear to Caleb’s 10th Birthday party last December. It’s an homage to all the dope female content creators that are making space in the sneaker world for us. Personally, it also expresses the ability to wear sneakers with anything, giving options for a more versatile wardrobe. Check out Honey Inc. for your pair.
If you’ve been reading this blog for some time, you know I have a working relationship with Trendy Chix Boutique, that doesn’t mean I don’t support them when I can. I purchased these earrings as soon as I saw them because I knew they would make a statement in my collection. The long cross ones are simple yet bold. The fringe ones speak to me on many levels. These would look great with anything from simple tee shirts and jeans to dresses!
Youtube content creator and entrepreneur Ambrosia Malbrough has been on my subscription list for years. I love watching her natural hair and lifestyle content. She also has a jewelry shop called Brosia Love with many quality, affordable earring options that I love. I purchased two pairs of her Oma hoops to play around with a layered hoop look I’ve seen Beyoncé rock a few times. I loved the outcome! This will be my everyday earring look when I don’t want to do too much, but I still want to look put together!
The next two pairs of earrings are from Cee Cee’s closet. They are a brand out of New York, owned by two sisters who are widely known for their African print head-wraps. Unfortunately, the first pair is sold out on their site but I did include the link to the second pair below. As you can see with all the earrings featured, I have a preference for gold-toned pieces. I just think it looks better on my skin tone and stands out against my dark hair!
The last pair are literally coined as wearable art by the shop owner. Her pieces are one of a kind and made in Montreal out of acrylic. Charlotte and I connected on Instagram and she gifted these to me to share with you guys. They are super lightweight and look great when my hair is off my face, to really be seen. Check out IcontaKT, for all her designs.
The “K” initial earrings I am wearing, are pure gold and they were made in my home country of Belize. I’ve had a pair of initial earnings since I was a young girl. I make sure to get a new pair every time someone goes back home. Since my third piercing isn’t a year old yet, it’s best for me to wear solid metals that won’t irritate the area.
I got my first piercing as a baby, Caribbean parents pierce a baby girl’s ear before she turns 1. I wasn’t allowed to get my second piercing until I was 18, I went downtown Brooklyn to one of those jewelry stores on Fulton Street. After they stuck the needle through my ear for my last piercing, I think I’m done. I was always used to getting pierced with a gun, apparently, that isn’t the best way, the needle is. Who knew?
These are my latest purchases from brands I can assure you have amazing customer service. I am always on the lookout for more female-owned, small businesses to support, so please share amazing jewelry brands down below. Honestly chica… chatting with you and just knowing there is somewhere there who sees me and understands my frustrations during this time has been my self care. We all need people in our circle we can go to and just be real with… let it all out. Also, the shower has become my place of serenity. Lol says a lot when your quiet time and only place you can collect yourself is in the shower.

I’m making time for self care by taking longer showers and using extra Shea butter! And a glass of wine or three at night! 🍷

Shea Butter Baby!
My self care includes locking myself in my room for at least an hour a day and just relaxing…it’s Me time to do what I please. With 4 sons and a husband working from home I’m constantly doing…everything 😫. I also use some time once the kids are in bed to make a few bead bracelets and watch one of my fave shows. Btw love your page ❤️

LOL! Yes, sounds good! The shower seems to be the popular location for self-care these days. Thanks for reading!
I try to practice self care whenever I can. It’s usually after the kids have gone to bed so I can finally sit, watch TV or read a book. I may even drink on a little something lol.
