Caped Crusader

I attended a Birthday Dinner a couple weekends back at a fabulous Restaurant and Wine Bar in Brooklyn. The vibe I was going for was chic, (as always) yet fun and flirty. What better way to capture that, than with a cape dress?

This trend for me jumped out when Solange Knowles got married in New Orleans back in November. I ordered the dress, (no longer available) the week after for my vacation in December to Nigeria. I never got to wear it, been in my closet ever since. But the trend has been popping up more and more on other celebs such as Janelle Monae, Lupita Nyongo, and Tracee Ellis Ross.

The reason why I never wore it, my stomach isn’t 100% where it needs to be in such a form fitting style. Peep how my hand is placed over it above? I can see some of you rolling your eyes now, but that’s just my own little insecurity, okay!? But hey, nobody is perfect and I felt good, so i went with it. Fashion is a feeling as well as a look, all a part of confidence as well.

Selfie! I accessorized minimally, the cape makes enough of a statement. These earrings I’ve had for years from a local boutique accessories shop in Staten Island, the beaded bracelet also ions old from an old co-worker who made jewelry. Natural hair on fleek, bronzer and my holographic Brian Atwood heels, completed my ensemble for the night.

How many of you are feeling the cape trend? Comment below!
