I know you have been seeing the posts all over your feeds of everyone’s goals, vision boards, and fitness plans for the new year. This post will be a bit different, I have set some Motherhood goals for myself this year. As usual I am sharing so we can have an open and honest discussion! What do you hope to accomplish as a parent this year?

The boys are 9 and 7 now, it’s time for me to let go a little. And by that I mean, teaching them responsibility. I have been home a huge part of their lives, and very hands-on at that. While they know I work, I am still here for them, homework, getting ready in the morn etc. Because of this, I feel like they depend on me TOO much. I have stopped laying out their clothes this year. They have to look for their own underpants, socks etc. All I do is iron their uniforms, the rest is on them.

Chores. I have been very lax with the boys and chores around the house. One of my goals is to crack down on that. They will have to make their beds, vacuum, and do the dishes. I need these boys to know how to clean and be organized. There will be no gender bias here when it comes to what housework they will have to do. Which brings me to cooking. I will start teaching them how to prepare easy meals this year: spaghetti, tacos, rice etc. My father used to always tell us how his Mom made sure he knew how to cook in case his wife treated him badly, he wouldn’t have to depend on her for food. My boys will be the same way.

As per my last post, I will implement a financial strategy for them this year as well. They do not get an allowance right now, but maybe we can start allowing them a few dollars each week to start learning about saving and how money works. Check out that post here.

Transparent moment. I need to work on my emotional health as a Mom. My major issue is I need to better express myself when I am stressed and not take out my frustrations on them. Sometimes it is so hard balancing it all, while still trying to be GOOD at everything! While you’re excelling at work, the family life may be suffering and vice-versa.

A big focus on my list this year, travel! We have a couple of huge family vacations planned this year. I am so grateful that the boys are already filled with so much culture, and we can’t wait to expose them to so much more of it. They are older now: able to handle the hustle and bustle of the airports, the long plane rides, and most importantly remember the experience. Any family vacations on your agenda this year?

Spirituality. The boys are being raised as SDA, mainly because of Ade. I have no problem with them going to church and learning the word. I am not able to attend church because of my weekend work schedule, so I am making a conscious effort to read a children’s devotional with them daily. It’s not a huge deal, but it’s something we can do as a family. I purchased the devotional from Amazon.

Whewww Chilleeeeee!!!! The way I can relate to this post. The boys will appreciate you teaching them how to cook, it’s a life skill
that some 20-somethings don’t have (but that’s another story for another day lol). The struggle with expressing yourself when it
comes to you being stressed is something I am all too familiar with. It’s something that takes a lot of work. I recall once yelling
at the twins in the morning and as we headed out the door my daughter asked: “Mommie are you stressed?” I almost started
crying because she picked up on that. My son hugged me and said, “Mom its going to be okay, the sun is shining and you woke
up this morning”. It caused me to laugh because its something I say to them when they’re having a bad morning. You got this
girl!!! Let me go set my own motherhood goals.

Thanks so much for sharing and being transparent. We are all doing the best we can, and once we identify our flaws we can work on them. I appreciate you for reading!

This is so awesome Karese! When it comes to setting goals we always think of money, career, etc. I love that you’re implemetning intentions with yourself and your family. The “I Will” is a solid foundation. I’m very proud of you and thank you for sharing. I’ll definitely be adding this to my list of things to do when I become a Mom.
