How To Beat The Holiday Blues

This time last year I hosted a fabulous Friendsgiving dinner at my home, for a few close friends and family. It was a less pressurized version of the usual family sit down that many people are wary of. We played games, danced to a playlist of current (ratchet) music, and ate amazing food (my first turkey was really good)!

There are many people who have rocky relationships with their families, and get depressed around this time. Friendsgiving is a great option for those who may not want the stress of the family sit-down. Besides, friends are family too. Much to my Squad’s dismay, I won’t be hosting another one this year.

Book yourself a little getaway to focus on you and set some intentions and goals for the new year. There are retreat center packages that are a great option if you would like to focus on wellness, and being a better you. Even though relaxing on the beach with a cocktail in hand sounds good to me as well. Spend time with that family member this season. It is important to surround yourself with those people who do not suck all of the energy out of you. So call up that cousin, aunt, uncle or grandparent and head over with a sweet potato pie, you won’t regret it. There is nothing like spending time with family and reminiscing.

If you naturally do not want to be bothered with any of the hoopla, staying home and ordering in is fine. Alone time is sacred and while you have a few days off from work, staying home and catching up on rest with Netflix is a win-win.

Spend time with those you love, take time to recenter your chakras, and be grateful no matter where you are. At the end of the day, if you wake up, have a few good people around, not wanting for the basic necessities of life (food, shelter, clothing), there is something to celebrate. Life is short, I ask that we all make the best of it!
